The contest scandal with Junior? It backfired on the old maggot! Word got around about how badly he failed. Nobody is blaming me anymore! People started talking about my stylish armor designs, and now they’re clamoring for product. If I live through tonight, I might get my own clothing line after all!

–Blitzen telling his companions about the aftermath of the crafting contest in, The Sword of Summer.

Blitzen, also known as Blitz, is a Norse demigod, son of the goddess Freya and the dwarf Bili. He is a skilled craftsman and fashion consultant.

History

Birth

Blitzen was born to Bilì, a dwarf, and Freya, the goddess of love, beauty, and magic. He lost his father to the jaws of the wolf Fenrir when he went to ensure that Gleipnir, the rope that bound the wolf, was still restricting the wolf, costing him his life. Freya, his mother, is alive but distant and calls on him mainly for favors and assignments.

Ambition

He studied self-made course of fashion at school, aspiring to one day open his own fashion label.

Meeting Hearthstone

When Hearthstone accidentally fell to Nidavellir while practicing runestones for the first time, he met Hearthstone, who would become his fellow hero and friend, he made the elf a custom tanning bed so that he could stay with him in the subterranean Dwarf realm of Nidavellir and not waste away, as elves need sunlight to survive.

Serving Mimir

Blitz, as well as Hearth, drank from Mimir's well of wisdom so that he could avenge his father, restore his family's honor, and realize his dream of fashion design without mockery from the other dwarves. In exchange, he had to work for the wise but unkind severed head for four years.

During that time, he and Hearth were ordered to watch over Magnus Chase after his mother died. He took night shifts, since as a dwarf the sunlight petrified him, while Hearth took the day shifts.

Blitz warns Magnus that two people are looking for Magnus and are passing flyers around town for him. He tells them that a middle-aged man and a teenage girl are looking for him. He then tells Magnus to go see Hearth, to be careful, and then quickly disappears before Magnus can say anything back. Later, Blitzen grabs a wooden dowel with a bright yellow traffic sign that reads, MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS, from a toy store on Charles Street and attacks Surt with Hearth to protect Magnus. After a short fight, he kicks Blitzen across Longfellow Bridge. When Magnus takes the Black One on, he takes Surt off the bridge.

He and Hearthstone search the nine worlds for Magnus. They find him at Valhalla, but he breaks his arm which Magnus heals. They are about to tell him about why they were watching him when the squirrel Ratotosk alarm sounds. The three flee into the hall when Magnus' hall mates offer to cover them while they go to Midgard. They wind up at Fenway where they tell Magnus that they were told he was a son of Frey and to watch him. He stays behind while Hearth and Magnus look for his sword due to sunlight petrifying him.

Mimir

Mimir, his boss

Blitz meets up with Magnus and Hearth at the T stop. He has a bag that worries Hearth. When Magnus tells him the sword is not with his body and Hearth is knocked out when they spot Sam and follow her. They follow her until they lose her and plan to go to Charles to find the Sword. Sam then assaults them until Magnus disarms her. After a short argument, she joins them. The four travel to a dock where he throws Mimir into the water to hydrate him. He explains to them that they have until next week to find the sword and delay Ragnarök. Blitz gets worried at the mention of Fenrir. Mimir offers them knowledge in exchange for their services. They decline, and he leaves. They decide to talk about it over lunch.

On their way to lunch, he hides in the shadows to avoid being petrified. When they reach the food court at the transportation building, he and Hearth grab a table and have an argument in sign language. When Magnus and Sam get back they are approached by a pigeon who threatens them with no lunch if they do not listen to him, Magnus agrees despite the others urging not to. He brings them their lunch in the form of an eagle and eats it. Sam then claims it is a giant. When it takes off with Magnus he, Sam and Hearth follow it and find him on the roof of the Boston public library. When he climbs down and tells them what he found out, they say he made a nevertheless leave to go fishing.

When they reach the docks Harald lets the demigods use his boat but not him and Hearth. When Hearth hits a bucket on his head it dents on his skull. He agrees to find shelter and meet Sam and Magnus at the library. While the demigods go fishing, he and Hearthstone do some research as to what to do next. They wait for Magnus at the public library and talk with Big Boy, the pigeon, while they wait. When he leaves Magnus suddenly appears and the three are startled but compare notes. Once they finish he is worried about what this might mean. He hands the others sandwiches and sleeping bags. When Hearth falls asleep he and Magnus talk about bone steel and elf culture. He then tells Magnus they will climb Yggdrasil in the morning to get to his homeworld.

He, Hearth, Sam, and Magnus meet at a duckling statue in the public garden to get to Nidevllir. He says that he and Hearth had travelled too much so they needed to cool down like an engine but that Magnus could open a portal. He helps Sam and Hearth hold off the advancing Valkyries and Einherjar. When Magnus opens the rift he is the first one in. When they arrive at the world tree they start to climb branches until they find a knothole leading to where Sumarbrander, the sword, wants to go. Hearth then gets stuck and they are attacked by Ratatosk. He and Magnus flee into the vanishing knothole while Sam covers Hearth with her hijab, which camouflages them.

Freya

Freya, his mother

He and Magnus land in Volkswagen where the light does not petrify him. He leads Magnus to the Hall of Many Seats. Along the way, they are greeted by warriors that Blitz does not care for. When they get to the boat they meet the goddess Freya, his mother. He forces himself to listen to his mother as she tells them to get her new earrings in Nidavellir. She gives them a pouch of red gold and sends them to the land of dwarves.

The two land in Nidavellir and head to Nabbi's tavern. Then they head to the counter he orders them mead and soda and asks for a meeting with Junior. After some bartering, the bartender agrees and he tells Magnus a little about dwarf history and culture. They eat nachos while they wait for Junior. When he arrives he talks bad about Blitz's father and mocks how he died. Blitz shows him the red gold at Magnus' urging and the two agree to a contest of crafting. When Junior leaves Sam and Hearth enter and he is hugged by the elf. They fill each other in on their stories and Blitz says he is no good at crafting and that Junior is the best. He then says that if he loses he will be decapitated. He takes everyone back to his apartment and makes them egg rolls. He explains the contest in more depth and tells them why Junior hates him and what happened to his father. After that, he headed to his bedroom. The next day during the contest he first makes a duck out of stress, which could triple in size. In the second round, Magnus gives Blitz the idea to make armour, as the dwarf is into fashion. During the next phase, he is aided by Magnus in making a bulletproof chainmail necktie. After making a reversible, bulletproof, chain mail vest in the third round, the judging starts. After he is declared the winner he asks for the earrings, a new rope that will replace Gleipnir, and for Junior to say he was wrong, and the location of the Fenris Wolf's island in exchange for the red gold. Junior gives him the first three but says he lied about visiting the island. He says that the island's location is classified but that Thor might know where it is. When Junior realizes Sam is a shapeshifter and sabotages the contest, he and the others ran for their lives. While running he tells everyone to duck into an alley, where he is caught in a net and taken to his mother.

When he reaches his friends in Jötunheim Magnus stops Thor from killing him and Hearth helps him up. He asks Magnus about it and offers him a piece of Marvin. Blitz says that his mother made him take part in festive events but he came as soon as he could. He and Hearth share a tent for the night.

He leads the way when the four climb a cliff. When they reach a chasm across from their destination they rest and think of how to get across. Hearth summons one of Slepnir's sons to transport them across. When the four pile on the house jump off the cliff. When the horse lands he helps Hearthstone get off and watches him while Sam and Magnus get information on Mjolnir and rescue Gunilla. He aids Magnus when he breaks his leg. They meet up with Geirrod and barter for Thor's weapon. He agrees and they play catch for ten minutes. They agree and he throws hot coals at them. He carries Magnus and is blinded when embers hit his eyes. After Magnus tells Gerriod his daughters are dead, the giant throws Collins at them until the ceiling caves in and kills himself. When he recovers Gunilla holds him hostage. The Valkyrie captain releases him after everyone drops their weapons. When they send her back to Valhalla they retrieve Thor's backup weapon. The Thunder God arrives and accepts it and sends them where they need to be.

Blitzen ends up at a department store in Nidavellir and hears that Junior is being ridiculed for his poor crafting during their competition. As well as that his fashionable armour is all the rage, he says that after tonight his dream will come true. He meets up with Hearth and the demigods at Long Wharf. He gets teary-eyed when Magnus says the four of them are a team. When they meet the dwarf brothers he tells his friends that they will try to kill, abandon and steal from them. But they get tickets regardless. On the way to Lyngvi, he is fiddling with his ascot. When they dock the dwarf brothers demand their valuables for a return trip, which he says they will not come back for them. Magnus says that they do not need a return trip and the brothers leave. For then go to face the wolf.

When they find Fenrir, Blitzen begins taunting them. He says that his father's bones are around here somewhere. He is about to charge the wolf but Sam and Magnus hold him back. He is snapped out of it by Hearthstone. Gunilla arrives with two other Valkeryies and Magnus' hall mates. When Gunilla orders their arrest Magnus' hall mates refuse to do so. When Surt and his fire giants arrive wearing chainmail suits he says they stole his designs. He charges at one of the fire giants and impales him with his harpoon. He then attacks the wolf's head -n but has his throat slit. Hearth casts a protection spell to keep him safe. Magnus sees his ascot change from silk to chain mail, which saves his life, he is helped to Magnus and Sam by Hearthstone. When the island starts to fade he and the others rush to the shore. When T.J. pulls out a Frey Boat he and everyone else gets aboard. He and Hearth have an argument in Alf sign language about who has a dumber plan but wind up having a poking contest instead. When Magnus tries to heal Halfborn, Blitzen warns him that the strain might be too much for him.

When they arrive at the hotel he and the others are escorted to the feast hall where the thanes call him, Hearth and Sam Magnus' questionable companions. Before the judgment can be passed, X reveals himself to be Odin. Once the All-Father tells what he has been doing the last two years he rewards Magnus and his friends. He releases Blitzen of his services to Mimir and offers to help him open up his shop. Odin even allows an endorsement deal, much to the dwarves' joy. Odin gives him full access to all of the Nine Worlds.

Blitzen attends the funeral held for the fallen Valkyries at the public garden. He says that he is planning to have his shop located on Beacon Street.

Blitzen has not seen Magnus since the funeral for the fallen Valkyries. His shop, Blitzen's Best, was abandoned. He and Hearthstone were seen in a dream where Mimir told him and Hearth to go on a mission. However, Hearthstone was concerned because he predicted the dwarf would die on this mission, but he agreed to go anyway. He and Hearthstone met up with Magnus and Sam in Provincetown to retrieve Mjølnir. Despite the possibility that he might die, he goes on this mission to help his friends. He senses the wight's tomb and has Hearthstone open it, the four then fall into the tomb. After finding an iron coffin that says blood river, he gets a little uneasy. After Gillir orders his bodyguards to attack them, he stalls them by having them talk about their weapon's history, which works for a little while. After they defeat the draugr, he feels that this was a trap. Almost immediately Loki and Randolph Chase appear before them. He helps Hearthstone up and calls Loki crazy for unsheathing Skofnung. He is stabbed in the gut by Randolph on Loki's orders. Hearthstone cradles his friend while Magnus tries to heal him. In the end, Magnus petrified him in order to stall until they find the Skofnung stone.

His friends take his petrified form with them, hoping he does not start to crumble. Hearth summons bubble wrap and tape to ensure he stays safe. As Magnus and Hearth are about to jump off the plane, the elf straps the two of them together with his scarf. After Magnus and Hearthstone are brought to Alderman by the police, he is placed in the trunk. Hearth's father tells then that to cure him, the dwarf must be put in running water. He is left behind while Hearth and Magnus find Andvari's treasure. After they succeed they unpetrify him and use the Skofnung stone to heal his wound. Hearthstone and Magnus fill him in and he shows his concern now that Alderman his the ring. At the party, he looks concerned while looking at Aldetman and surprised when Inge kisses Hearthstone. He flees with his friends and fled to another world when Jack opened a portal. They land in a stairwell and he takes the Snoknung stone from Magnus. He and Hearth agree to meet up with Magnus the next day. Before he and Hearth depart for Nidavillir.

The next day he, Sam, Hearth and Stanley wait for Magnus and Alex at the park. He, Alex and Magnus ride Stanley to Jötunheimr. They are knocked off the horse by a tree branch when they arrive. After being pointed in the right direction by a jotunn named Tiny, he tells them to bring his bowling bag to Utgard-Loki's bowling alley to show that they are friends. The giant leaves and he finds the bowling bag. He inspects the bag and learns that it is not finished, that it is unnamed. Blitzed feels that if he can finish it with magic, they can carry it. However, he requests Magnus' hair and Alex's blood, much to their shock. The demigods reluctantly agree.

He and Jack spend the next day and night working on the bag. After twenty-four hours he finishes the bag and demonstrates it before passing out from exhaustion. The three hike up to Utgard Lines where they find Utgard-Loki, who is holding Sam and Hearth. Utgard-Loki releases their companions and tells them that to get the information that they want, they must compete in contests to prove their worth or die trying. They talk strategy until Utgard-Loki shows up and tells them that an alliance between Loki and Thrym would put an end to his reign as king. After Sam deduces that her opponent is fear itself and Hearth destroys his opponent in pinball, he manages to make a giant good looking after sleeping under a counter for forty years. After Alex and Magnus tie their challenge, the giant king tells them Loki plains to use the wedding to get the sword and Stone to free himself. Utgard-Loki tells them that the young have to options, to die at this moment or find the hammer themselves. Soon afterwards the giants give chase.

As the giants gain on them, they are saved by the goddess Sif and brought to her house, which he finds marvelous. He is also intrigued by Sif's ability to control her hair. As they go to meet with Thor he says Sif is not all bad. When they tell the thunder god about the hammer, Alex surprises him by volunteering to take Sam's place as a bride. He is shocked by this but thinks it is the best option. Thor gives him and Hearth a pass that will allow them to go to Valhalla to recruit einharjar.

Just as Magnus and co are about to lose, he, Hearth, T.J., Mallory, and Halfborn arrive and fight the giants. He tells Magnus that the gods will be here soon and he proceeds to punch Thrym in the face. While they are distracted Loki is freed. He watches as Loki kills the serpent and is treated for injuries when the gods arrive.

Back at Valhalla, he is to distracted by Loki's escape to enjoy the feast. Helgi then invites him and his friends to his office and tasks them with capturing and rebinding Loki, which can delay Ragnorok. He and Hearth spend the night in Magnus' suite. He and Hearth plan to head to his shop to strategize for their quest. He reassures his friend that Loki's escape is not his fault. He is gone by morning.

The Ship of the Dead

He and Hearth were waiting to be picked up when they were attacked by a sea serpent who, unknown to them, was really the pet of the Nine Billow Maidens. They are held captive by Aegir, who plans to eat them. But are freed and invited to dinner when Sam says she must break fast with a dwarf and an elf. During the standoff, they manage to calm Aegir down and convince him to let them leave if they can escape his daughters. During the fight, he insults the billow maiden's fashion sense and through plates at them. He escapes along with the rest of the crew when Njord arrives and Hearth blasts a wall.

When they surface he, Magnus and Hearth speak with Njord at the Vanir's request. He is uneasy around the god because his father's torn clothing was found on the shores of Nidavellir. Njord tells them to go to Skadi's harbor, as it is the safest route, and to get Kvasir's mead. However, Njord says he and Hearth might die. The god says they must look for Bolverk's whetstone. He and Hearth agree after conversion about the location and let Magnus join them when they are ready. They say their goodbyes and Njord sends them away.

He and Hearthstone have spent the last few days scouting out Alderman's mansion and arrive on the Big Banana to tell Magnus they need his help in Alfheim with Alderman. They venture deep onto the property and find a cave they think Alderman is in. Alderman emerges momentarily in the form of a dragon. Blitz tries to consult his friend, but Hearth says the only way to help him is to kill him. He is concerned that the act will taint Hearthstone's wyrd so he backs Magnus' plan to kill the cursed dragon. He helps Magnus practice getting out before the cursed blood floods the tunnel. When Alderman moves in to attack Hearth he comes to his friend' defence. After Alderman dies he speaks with Hearth and helps Magnus with Andvari's treasure. He put the cursed ring, still on Alderman's severed toe, into the bag. He and Magnus bring the bag back to the river and walk back to Hearth to see him roasting the heart. He continues to consult Hearth and is shocked when Magnus accidentally destroys the heart and ingests the blood. He tells him it would affect his DNA. The four head back to the Big Banana.

They return and tell the crew their story. He and Hearth go below deck to sleep and are left to rest when everyone goes in search of a train station. He and Hearth sleep through the giant attack and are glad to see Magnus safe when he returned. When the big banana reaches Jotunheim he wakes Magnus.

The ship gets caught in the ice and they decide to walk to shore. He holds up Hearths along the way and offers to dig a cave to keep them warm. Skadi shows up and invites them in to explain themselves. They bath and have a hot meal with the giantess. She tells them Naglfar will launch by midday the following day. She gives them permission to spend the night. Magnus wakes him up and they have breakfast before skiing over to Naglfar.

BlitzensExpandoDuck

His expandable ducks

When they arrive he goes with Hearth, T.J., Mallory and Halfborn to distract the forces of the dishonourable dead while Sam and Alex help Magnus flyt Loki. He throws expandable metal ducks at the enemy. After Loki grudgingly accepts the flyting he props up Hearthstone and watches the contest and is concerned Magnus will lose. He is pleased with Magnus's compliment about him besting Eitri Junior, sewing that bowling bag for Tiny, berating Alderman, and making patented stainless-steel neckties and expand-o-ducks. He rides on Hearth's shoulders as they escape the hoards. They jump off the ship at Sam's request and land on the backs of water horses. They escape just as the harbor freezes over.

They spend three days at sea. During this time he and Hearth make sure everyone is alright and he teaches Alex how to make chain mail clothing. When Magnus asks to speak with the child of Loki, Blitz leaves. The big banana takes them to Vigridr, where the einharjar will die during Ragnarok and are greeted by the gods. He is embraced by his mother and goes to the feasting tent with the others. Odin gives him, Hearth and Sam signed copies of his newest autobiography. Before they head back to Valhalla they hand over Loki. When they return to the hotel he and Hearth are made honorary einharar, and they are able to come and go from the hotel as they please. The two leave and agree to meet with Magnus about his reward from the gods.

He and Hearth help Magnus out at the Chase Space, the youth shelter he turned his ancestral home into. They work ad cooks and he allows some of the kids at the shelter to work at his shop. He cooks food and watches fireworks with everyone on the roof during the Fourth of July.

9 from the Nine Worlds

This Is Why I Hate Clothes Shopping

When Amir Fadlan arrives at his shop and does not see him, he asks Stan where he is. The sorcerer says that the dwarf is away getting supplies from home.

This Little Light of Mine, I’m Going to Let It Shine

While getting supplies from his apartment, Blitzen is spotted and chase down by Junior. However, Junior's rocket powered wheelchair crashes and Blitzen loses Junior. Unfortunately, he is in an unfamiliar part of Nidavellir and, fearing Junior will return soon, heads into a bar. When he asks the bartender for directions, he tells Blitz to either buy a drink, play a game, or leave. He sees one of Junior’s henchmen and goes to a game in the corner. When he put a quarter in the game and it does not work, but a muscular and stout dwarf comes up to him and, after revealing a secret passage, tells Blitz to get in. He goes in an office where Mimir tells him that Thor is jogging through Nidavellir and Alviss, a dwarf who was promised his daughter Thurd in marriage, is out to try and kill the thunder god, who pulled out at the last minute of marriage and instead petrified Alviss. He tells Blitz not to let Thor notice because he could kill all the dwarves in anger. Mimir gives him a map marked with the spot of the attack and leaves.

Blitzen heads back to his apartment to think of ways to stop Alviss without maiming or killing as he already has a lot of enemies in the dwarf realm, he looks at the tanning bed that he made for Hearthstone and decides to make a stronger and portable version of it. He then sets out when its construction is finished. He sees Thor coming and Alviss tied to a stalagmite with a long rope and a club ready to swing and hit him on the head. Just as Alviss puts his revenge in motion. Blitz falls right into Thor’s path, but Thor takes no notice of this. Alviss misses and Blitz petrifies him before he can get a second chance. As Alviss swings, the rope snaps and he goes flying into a river. Just then Junior and some of his friends show up and Blitz uses his portable tanning bed to partially petrify or crustify Junior. He says he only wants to talk with junior once he de-crusts and backs up into the river.

Speaking of Trolls...

Hearth mentions him along with Sam and Magnus when along with Thomas Jefferson Jr., saying they are the only ones among his friends who know sign language.

I Play with Fire

Blitzen, along with Hearth, Samirah, Mallory, Halfborn and T.J., go to Muspellheim to help Alex fight Surt. However by the time they get their the child of Loki has subdued the lord of Muspellheim and he hogties the fire lord with a silver rope.

Appearance

Blitzen is a Svartalf, making him taller than average Nidavellir dwarves and generally more handsome because of his Vanir blood. He has a dark complexion and a beard.

When he posed as a homeless man, Blitz usually looked like he had just finished running through a dirty hurricane. He has wiry black hair, full of paper scraps and twigs, a beard that curls in all directions, and dilated eyes. His face is the color of saddle leather with flecks of snow and looks like he is permanently alarmed. His nose has been broken so many time it looks like a lightning bolt. He is about five feet and five inches tall and wears a snow-caked trench coat.

After pretending to be a homeless man, however, Blitzen has a much cleaner appearance. His chaotic hair had been washed and combed back. His beard was trimmed. His Cro-Magnon unibrow had been plucked and waxed. His boots were alligator leather. His black wool suit was tailored to fit his stocky five-feet-five frame and looked lovely with his dark skin tone. Under the jacket, he was rocking a charcoal paisley waistcoat with a gold watch chain, a smart turquoise shirt and a skinny bolo tie. However, he is often anxious to cover his skin during the day, as he gets petrified in direct sunlight.

Personality

Blitzen is extremely loyal his friends and went face-to-face with Surt to protect Magnus. He also has a sense of style. He is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of preventing Ragnarök. He has been shown to be amazingly caring, healing his best friend Hearthstone the Alf back to health after he found him lost and injured with the use of a sun bed, made specifically for his friend. He also learned sign language for him and has been there for him in his darkest times.

Abilities

  • Crafting Skills: Blitzen is skilled at crafting. When he first met Hearthstone, he made a tanning bed so the elf could survive in the subterranean dwarf world of Nidavellir, as elves need sunlight. However, he is bad under pressure, and automatically builds ducks when he is nervous.
  • Adept Sense of Fashion: Blitzen is quite skilled at fashion, having studied it in school. With a little improvisation in The Sword of Summer, he was able to design fashionable clothes from chain mail.
  • Alf Sign Language: Blitzen can understand Alf Sign Language (ASL).
  • Geokinesis: As a dwarf, Blitzen has some control over the earth.
    • Underground Intuition: Blitzen is able to sense how old a rock formation is as well as entrances and exits to underground chambers.
    • Rock Shaping: As a dwarf, Blitzen can shape rocks with his hands so he may climb on them.[1]

Magical Items

  • Bone Steel Harpoon: Blitz bought a bone steel harpoon when he is sent to Nidavellir by Thor. He uses it to fight fire giants on Fenrir's island.
  • Armored Clothing: Blitzen has clothing that changes from silk to chain mail, such as his ascot.

Relationships

Family

Blitzen was close to and respected his father. He was deeply saddened when he learned his father was killed by Fenris Wolf and angered that he was seen as a fool. However he would average his father years later when proving his theory of the rope right and rebonded the wolf.

Freya

Freya, his mother.

Blitzen is often annoyed by his mother. Whenever she asks him to get her new jewelry from Nidavellir, he does so grudgingly.

Friends

Magnus Chase-RR

Magnus Chase, his friend.

On the orders of Mimir, Blitzen watched over the son of Frey with Hearthstone and they formed a strong bond. Blitz would watch out for Magnus and Magnus would stand up for Blitz.

When Blitz was stabbed with Skofnung, he ventured to Alfheim to find the Skofnung Stone to cure him, showing the dedication to saving his friend.

Hearthstone-RR

Hearthstone, his close friend.

The two met when the elf accidentally sent himself to Nidavellir and he built him a tanning bed to keep him alive in the subterranean world. The two became fast friends. They the two started to serve Minir at the same time and both helped watch out for Magnus. The dwarf even learned Alf Sign Language for the elf.

When Blitz was stabbed with Skofnung, he agreed to return to his father’s home, a place he dreads, to get the stone to cure him, showing his dedication to his friend.

Blitzen and Hearthstone have a very romantically-coded relationship, and due to the unreliable nature of Magnus' narration, it is safe to assume the two were in fact in a long term romantic relationship, possibly since before the beginning of the series.

Samirah-RR

Samirah al-Abbas, his friend.

At first, the two saw one another as untrustworthy. However as there quest went on, the two started to trust each other and eventually saw each other as valuable allies. Within weeks Blitz and the daughter of Loki demonstrate concern for one another.

Others

Mimir

Mimir, his former employer.

Blitzen was forced to serve the severed head for four years in exchange for his dreams to come true. He feared the severed head during this time, however after being freed by Odin he lost this fear.

Almost a year after being freed from his services, Blitz agrees to take a job from the severed head to save Thor from an assassination attempt and prevent him from knowing about it to save dwarfkind.

Blitzen hates Junior for insulting his father’s legacy and making him a mockery of Nidavellir.

Trivia

  • Blitzen gave Hearth his red and white scarf.
  • When he is under pressure while crafting he automatically makes waterfowl. (Ducks, geese, swans, etc.)
  • He is unaffected by the light in the fields of Folkvanger, as said light is not from the sun and is not natural, because of the goddess of love, Freya, uses her own beauty to light up Folkvanger. As Nidavellir lacks natural light, he is fine while inside of it. He often wears clothing that slow the petrification caused by the sun, notably wearing a pith helmet.
  • He is good at frisbee.
  • Blitzen is the first demigod created for a series with a non-human mortal parent, being half-Norse Vanir god and half-dwarf. (Although this is only because the Norse pantheon doesn’t differentiate between human and mortal, while the GrecoRoman does Tyson)
  • His name is German for sparkle, flash and twinkle.
  • In The Sword of Summer when the cast visits Freya's abode, Blitzen wears a green carnation in his lapel. The green carnation is a symbol meaning "a man who loves other men", which was begun by Oscar Wilde in 1892. This detail combined with his and Hearthstone's romantically coded relationship leads many readers to the well-supported assumption that Blitzen is LGBTQ+.
