The Quest for the Staff of Hermes was a quest bequeathed to Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase by the Greek messenger god, Hermes after a giant stole his Caduceus. Hermes wished for his Caduceus to be returned quickly to prevent anyone from recognizing it was stolen.
Prophecy[]
There was no formal prophecy given, but Hermes told them the giant Cacus had stolen his staff, with George and Martha attached, and that no one could find out it was stolen. Hermes claimed that it would be embarrassing if anyone found out his staff was stolen since he was the god of thieves.
The Quest[]
Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson are celebrating their one month anniversary when Hermes issues a quest to find his staff that was stolen by Cacus. They go to the sewers to find Cacus in an underground cavern trying to sell them different clothes and wants to become the god of traveling salesman. They escape the cavern when Percy calls thousands of gallons of New York sewage to him and it pushes them to the surface, with Annabeth cursing Percy the entire time. Annabeth then comes up with a plan and runs to a crane, knowing how to operate it as she observed them on Olympus. Percy lures Cacus under the crane's large hook and Annabeth drops it on his head before picking him up and swinging him into the air, where Percy destroys him with the caduceus' Laser Mode. Percy and Annabeth then return the caduceus to Hermes, who is very grateful. As a reward however, Hermes transports them to Paris for a special dinner.
