The Quest for Daedalus was a quest to find Daedalus at his workshop in the Labyrinth in The Battle of the Labyrinth. Annabeth Chase, Grover Underwood, Percy Jackson, and Tyson took the quest and were later joined by Rachel Elizabeth Dare, a clear-sighted mortal. They succeeded in the quest with some help from her. During the quest, it was discovered that Kronos' army was trying to find a way through the maze using Ariadne's String to find a clear path to Camp Half-Blood. The Labyrinth being the only way to get past the magical borders that protect the camp from the outside. This was the quest with biggest number of people joining. Even after Chiron's warning of the number three being a lucky number and saying that five people went on the Quest for Artemis, only three came back, Annabeth said that she needed all four of them.
You shall delve in the darkness of the endless maze,
The dead, the traitor, and the lost one raise.
You shall rise or fall by the ghost king's hand,
The child of Athena's final stand.
Destroy with a hero's final breath,
And lose a love to worse than death.
Unraveling the Prophecy
- Annabeth, Grover, Percy, and Tyson enter the endless maze, a Labyrinth created by Daedalus.
- Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, raised the dead; Ethan Nakamura, the traitor, was spared; and Pan's spirit and message is raised.
- 'The Ghost King' was Nico (since he is a son of Hades, god of the underworld), who decided to help Annabeth and the rest of the campers.
- A child of Athena's final stand refers to Daedalus, one of Athena's children, who would die during the Battle of the Labyrinth.
- The Labyrinth was destroyed with Daedalus's last breath, as he and the maze's life force were tied together.
- Annabeth loses Luke to Kronos, since he becomes the host body for the Titan. This is considered to be worse than if he had died instead.
Annabeth is given the prophecy and takes Percy, Tyson, and Grover with her. Percy and Annabeth find their way to the Triple G Ranch where they learn that Nico is being held there against his will by Geryon and his employee Eurytion. Percy makes a deal that if he could clean out the Flesh-Eating Horses and their Stables before sunset, then they can all go free. He manages to accomplish this, but Geryon breaks his deal, forcing Percy to shoot him with an arrow through his three hearts, leaving Eurytion in charge, who lets them free and agrees to watch Nico and take better care of the animals on the ranch. He also gives them a mechanical spider that will lead them to Hephaestus.
They follow the spider to Hephaestus, who says he will help them if they see who has been using his forges at Mount Saint Helens. On the way, Grover and Tyson leave to look for Pan. They once again follow the spider to the forge to see that a group of telekhines are using the forge to reforge Kronos' Scythe. Percy tells Annabeth to run away and tell Hephaestus what is happening while he gives her time to escape. She gives him a kiss and runs off. Percy's fight with the telekhines causes him to create an explosion on the mountain and he lands in Ogygia with Calypso, a peaceful Titan that was trapped on her island for supporting her father. She takes care of him until Hephaestus arrives and tells Percy what has been happening while he was on the island.
Percy eventually decides to go back, leaving Calypso (much to her dismay), and heads back to camp where they are about to start his funeral. Annabeth sees him in the crowd and hugs him. Percy, while talking to Hephaestus, now knows that they need a clear sighted mortal to help them and he goes to find Rachel Elizabeth Dare. She agrees to help (much to Annabeth's annoyance) and they eventually make it to Daedalus' workshop. It is then that we learn that Quintus and Daedalus are one and the same and he just wanted to know if the camp had a chance of surviving the attack from Luke's army, which he says they don't. Luke's forces then enter the workshop with Nico captured (Minos had lured him back into the Labyrinth by saying Percy was in danger).
The group escape the attack (leaving Daedalus behind) with Nico and they find an entrance to the Labyrinth. Rachel sees an exit leading to the Titan stronghold, Mount Othrys, and Percy goes to take a look while wearing Annabeth's Yankees Cap. He finds a coffin with Luke's body in it and Ethan Nakamura appears and swears his loyalty to Kronos, causing Kronos to be revived in Luke's body. Percy tries to run but time slows down. Rachel tosses a blue plastic hairbrush which hits Luke causing time to return to normal. Nico then causes a wall of black rock to shoot from the floor, allowing them to escape, but also allowing Kronos to realize that Nico is a son of Hades.
They find Tyson and Grover and the god Pan, and he gives Rachel, Percy, Grover, Tyson, and Annabeth some of his remaining power before fading. They all return to camp to prepare for the fight against the invading army. When Luke's force attack, it seems like the battle is lost until Grover uses the power of Pan (panic) to scare the monsters back into the Labyrinth. Daedalus then sacrifices his own life so that the Labyrinth will be destroyed.
