Ragnarök (also known as the Twilight of the Gods, Doomsday or Götterdämmerung) is a series of future events foretold to ultimately result in the death of major Norse gods, the burning of the nine realms, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water.

In Mythology

Ragnarök is a series of future events, including a great battle foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Tyr, Frey, Heimdall, and Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. Afterward, the world will resurface anew and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet, and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors.

Events preceding Ragnarök

1. Death of Balder
2. Birth of Loki's children (Fenris, Hel, and Jormungand)
3. Fimbulvinter ("Mighty Winter") - a harsh winter, lasting three years, during which the entire Midgard shall freeze and all life will cease to exist. The only two human survivors, a man and a woman, will hide in the branches of Yggdrasil.

Events during Ragnarök

1. Sons of Fenris - Skoll and Hati - are responsible for chasing the Sun and the Moon will finally reach their targets. Sól and Mani, the gods of Sun and Moon respectively, will die and the stars and sky along with them.
2. Three roosters shall crow to announce the beginning of the battle: Gullinkambi in Asgard, Fjalar in Jotunheim, and an unnamed soot-red rooster in Helheim.
3. Garm, the watchdog of the Underworld, shall roar. At this time, the bindings of both Loki and Fenris shall come loose.
4. Loki and Fenris shall exact their revenge. The Midgard Serpent will emerge from the waters and Loki, along with the giants and allied monsters, will sail towards Asgard. Seeing the enemies, Heimdall shall blow his warning horn - Gjallarhorn - so loud, it will be heard in all Nine Worlds. The Bifrost Bridge shall collapse under the weights of all the monsters and giants.
5. Odin shall lead his einherjar out of Valhalla and into the battle. The All-Father will be eaten by Fenris, but his son - Vidar - will avenge him. Odin's wife, Frigg, shall cry for the second time in her life (first time was after the death of Balder).
6. Loki and Heimdall will kill each other.
7. Thor shall slay Jormungand, but will fall victim to his venom.
8. Tyr will die fighting Garm, but will manage to kill the Hellhound.
9. When the gods are dead, the einherjar will fight the giants and monsters until the very end.
10. The Lord of Fire Giants, Surt, will kill the god Frey and use his sword, Sumarbrander, to incinerate Asgard and other Worlds, killing everything in process.

Post Ragnarök

1. After burning Asgard, the oceans shall rise and engulf the Nine Worlds in water. Yggdrasil, the World Tree, will be destroyed by water. From its roots, a new world - called Gimle, the New Asgard - shall emerge. The new world will be led by the resurrected god, Balder. It will be a peaceful place with no wars, violence and conflicts. New population of humans will live in peace, prosperity and happiness.
