Locking[]
Why is this locked??? I want to add information from the crossovers. I had a major hand in writing the original page by the way: I wrote most if not all of the summaries for Carter's role in the Kane Chronicle books.--WarGrowlmon18 (talk • contribs) 22:19, June 25, 2015 (UTC)

- Don't patronize me. That's very rude. Make it so that only registered users can modify the page or something or lock it if vandalism actually happens. - Carter is one of the main characters in the series, so his page, along with other main characters (i.e. The Seven) are locked since they are most at risk for vandalism. If you type up the info you want to add in advance I would be willing to unlock the page for you for a few minutes to copy-paste the info in. Bird Talk 00:55, June 26, 2015 (UTC)
- I usually do it on the fly, not in advance. It allows me to check what I've done and modify it if I feel necessary. Also, sometimes I find other things I like to change a lot. I'm one of the original authors of this page pretty much. The summaries on the first three books are all my work besides anything that got changed over time since I wrote them. I did a lot with his powers and relationships too. I'm not someone who would vandalize, in fact I was such a major contributor on the KC Wiki that I came close to achieving Administrator status (ultimately I didn't do enough to get that but I did get Rollback rights) but I didn't do that by writing it all at once and then posting it.--WarGrowlmon18 (talk • contribs) 01:11, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

- Unfortunately, I cannot unlock the page only to you, and his page will not be unlocked to regular users because of the risk of vandalism. I am aware that you did a lot of work on this page, but I cannot unlock the page for you to edit over a long period. Sorry. - That's freaking ridiculous!!! You expect me to let you know when I want to update a page???!!! You guys are putting way too many restrictions on this Wiki!!! I've never seen that many before and I write on a lot of other Wikis and have Admin status myself on one. No one locks all the important pages just because someone might vandalize them. They do it because of serious vandalism which is fair enough. Or they block the user who does the vandalism which makes more sense since someone who vandalizes pages should be blocked. This method just punishes the majority of the people on this site who don't vandalize pages. Because so many important pages are blocked on this Wiki you've got outdated information on several. I've noticed that a lot of pages have little to no information on The Blood of Olympus for example. Now no one can add that stuff to the pages that are locked which are incomplete as a result. I can't do it (even if they were unlocked) because I haven't reached the Heroes series yet. Kane Chronicles is the only one I've read in full. Another example of outdated information is on the Annabeth Chase page it says her cap no longer works. That was fixed in the Staff of Serapis but again, can't be fixed because its blocked. As for writing ahead of time and then asking for time to post (SERIOUSLY???) how would I set that up if I was interested (which I'm not)??? First off I'd have to post a message to you to have you unlock the page for a few minutes. How am I supposed to get a reply??? Watch your page until you reply??? I'm not hooked into an email with the Wikis and only notice changes when I physically go to pages. Even if I did have one hooked up, I don't check it very often. Say you give me permission and I miss the message because I'm busy doing something else on my computer. Then I miss the window which as being only a few minutes would be very easy to do. - Again, calm down. You need to understand how hard it is to manage a wiki. We are also in the middle of a merger, it's harder to watch the pages when we are constantly bringing pages over. You need to get it through your head that we are doing the best we can to keep everything under control, and if that means locking important pages, fine. Bird already told you that you can request to have a page unlocked temporarily so you can make an edit to it. - Again with the patronizing (and I never got an apology for the first time either by the way which is very rude). I know we're in the middle of a merger but like I said, I'm an Admin too on another site so I understand these things. I just think your going way too far with your protections since it punishes honest users. No other site goes that far with their protections and I know that because I'm on a lot of them. Your "temporary" unlocking you said was only for a few minutes and you want my edits preprepared which is crazy to expect because what if I do that then suddenly see something else I want to edit??? That happens a lot. I go back and forth between pages while making edits many times. You only give me a very limited window (again like I said it would be pretty hard to set up too) and I probably won't be able to do everything I want. You need to loosen the restrictions unless someone actually starts vandalizing these pages. Ehhh, I kinda agree with WarGrowlmon. We still need to fill up a lot of the pages, and with anon editing disabled, there's not that high of a risk. These preventive measures are suddenly becoming punishing measures. Atelda 02:53, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

- I still have a point that all your doing is punishing us with all these restrictions. The Admins of this site are way too restricting and they need to lay off unless there's actually a good reason to lock a page. Proposal for right now: I unlock the page for an undetermined amount of time, you edit it, and meanwhile all the admins talk about what we shall do with the rest of the locked pages once we're all on. Sound good? Atelda 03:24, June 26, 2015 (UTC)
- I'd agree with that with the amendment that you do that for all the locked pages of the main characters. The Sadie page really needs to have the information added from the original page on the KC wiki and while I merged the missing parts of several pages from the KC wiki while it still existed after hearing of the merger, that wiki was removed before I knew that page needed the details from there added. I could definitely think of a few things that might be needed to be added there just from what I know of the KC wiki version of that page but at the moment there's nothing I can do about that. I noticed that when I wanted to check her powers (one of the things I'll be doing here if its unlocked) for updates from the crossover stories. I think a few things could be changed there but I don't have the information to change it yet. I could probably do some editing on the Staff of Serapis section of the page though. I haven't read the Crown of Ptolemy fully yet (that's for tomorrow but I have skimmed) so I can't really add anything about that yet but I can at least expand the parts that need to be expanded without being affected by the merge. I'd need to skim the Carter page for needed edits at the moment (its been too long for to remember what I actually wanted to do at this point and its too late at night here) but I'm sure I could probably find something.--WarGrowlmon18 (talk • contribs) 03:34, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

- Unfortunately like I said at the moment the only one I can think of to make a major edit to is the Sadie Kane page. At this point its been too many hours for me to even remember what I wanted to do here. It turned into a fight against these heavy restrictions. I know I've got at least one Admin on my side though: they left a message on my talk page that they hope something can be done as they don't agree with this either but feel they are too new to make changes themselves at this point.--WarGrowlmon18 (talk • contribs) 03:44, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

- Nobody cares about your edits on the two pages in question as they will be overridden once the Wikia Staff imports the missing XML file onto this wiki.
