Valkyries are female warriors who bring the souls of heroes to Valhalla. They serve the god Odin. It is estimated that there are at least several thousand.
Description[]
Being a Valkyrie is considered an honor, as they directly serve the god Odin. It is assumed that they have to commit a worthy enough deed to catch the god's attention.
The Valkyries' main duty is to reap the souls of the bravely slain and to report them to Valhalla. Their other duties include serving the einherjar at their feasts and acting as their escorts. Valkyries are noted to have some authority over the slain, though still are lower in rank than the thanes. The Valkyries are led by a captain, who oversees them.
Valkyries can be punished if they fail at their duties. This usually happens if their chosen einherjar is judged unworthy, or if they proved to be disloyal towards Odin.
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard[]
The Sword of Summer[]
Samirah al-Abbas, a Valkyrie, retrieves Magnus Chase after he is killed by Surt. Around the same time, other Valkyries bring in new einherjar, such as Dede and Lars Alhstrom.
When Magnus first enters Valhalla, he sees many Valkyries serving the slain at the feast. He is introduced to their captain, Gunilla. Later, Samirah was stripped of her rank for rewarding Magnus with Valhalla.
Not long after, Magnus and his friends escape Valhalla. Angered, Gunilla and the other Valkyries proceeded to hunt them down, accompanied by other einherjar.
At the final battle, however, Margaret, Irene, and Gunilla, side with Magnus. They died fighting against Fenris and the firelord Surt. Samirah was reinstated as a Valkyrie, though she denied the offer of being their new captain.
The Hammer of Thor[]
Samirah al-Abbas reaps the soul of her half-sibling, Alex Fierro, and accompanies Magnus throughout his adventures.
Equipment[]
- Valkyrie Vision: Valkyrie Vision functions as a recording device. It is used to record valiant deaths for the einherjar's entertainment.
- Light Spear: Their primary weapon is a glowing spear.
- Swan Cloak: Valkyries possess magical cloaks that could be used as camouflage.
- Emergency Wristbands: When a Valkyrie is injured, another Valkyrie registered in the database could activate their armband. Doing so would magically send them back to Valhalla for healing.

Abilities[]
- Flight: Valkyries are granted an ability of flight.
- Teleportation: Valkyries are able to disappear in a flash of golden light.
- Necromancy (limited): Valkyries are capable of retrieving dead people's souls.
